A quaint little cautionary tale, Logans run is the story of a utopian society where everybody looks beautiful and hasn't a care in the world...until they reach the age of thirty, that is.
The citizens of this domed community reproduce through ectogenisis, (that is to say, they're test-tube babies), and are raised in a creche, and on the palm of one hand is embedded a small crystal. This crystal changes color as they age, eventually turning red and starting to blink at the age thirty, whereupon they must go to Carousel. Publically, this is they're chance to be born again (or have their lifeclock reset, the movie never makes this clear). In fact, this is where they go to die, in an exploding public light-show.
The entire complex is run by a central computer, which has only one problem--Some of the runners have escaped. It learns that there is a sort of underground railway helping them to find a place called sanctuary. To plug up this leak, it enlists the help of a sandman named Logan. Advancing his lifeclock, it sets Logan to the task of finding sanctuary and destroying it.
