SYNOPSIS
One of the first films adapted from the novels of Michael Chriton (
Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Congo), this movie is about a returning
space probe that lands outside a small town in the desert carrying a deadly virus
that wipes out the inhabitants, with the exception of two people.
The Government moves in with it's new, yet-to-be tested, top-secret laboratory, code named Wildfire.
However, while they make great strides in identifying the virus, they unknowingly
start a chain of events that could result in the destruction of all life on the planet.
Directed by Robert Wise (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Star Trek: The Motion Picture), he employs an interesting
split-screen style several times in the movie, that while may have been innovative (and was
in vogue for a short time in Hollywood), seems to distract the viewer somewhat.
This film depends more on the storyline rather than the special effects, and the science
used in it are still relevant. A good tension-builder.
My rating--3 out of five stars.
