SYNOPSIS

Based on a story by George Worthing Yates
Perhaps one of the best 'Giant Radioactive Monster' movies (apologies to all Godzilla fans). Gigantic mutated carnivorous ants invade the L.A. Basin from the nuclear testing grounds out in the desert.
Although the nest is located and destroyed, a queen and some drones escape to set up housekeeping in the tunnels under Los Angeles. They are finally killed before they can reproduce and expand to the outside world.
This was one of the 'template' movies on which later movies of this type are based. It is interesting to note that the ants were not animated but full size mock-ups.
